Connect DTVS-1B to DVD recorder
« on: November 22, 2010, 09:56:21 pm »
Hi. I'm having trouble connecting my DTVS-1B to my LG DR389 DVD recorder. As far as I can tell I need to have the satellite cable plugged into the LNB input, (and it is). Next I'm supposed to connect component or composite connectors from the satellite receiver to the DVD recorder and then from the DVD recorder to the TV - is this correct? Please supply very detailed, step-by step instructions because I know NOTHING about all this. As far as I can tell the receiver has both composite and component outs, the DVD recorder has composite in, and both composite and component outs. Any assistance greatly received. Thank you. Malcolm

Hi Malcolm,

Not sure if I can give you step by step instructions as I don't have the LG user manual. Here is someting for you which may help:

The DTVS-1B has three video outputs and three audio outputs as follows:

1) Component ( Green, Blue Red ) ( Labelled Y,Cb,Cr )
2) Composite ( Yellow ) ( labelled Video )
3) RF ( labelled TV Out)

4) Analog Audio Right and Left
5) Analog Audio Right and Left
6) Digital Audio S/PDIF

There are several ways of connecting the receiver. Standard recommendation is to use:

a) Component connection to the TV (1) plus audio (4)
b) Composite connection to your DVD (2) plus audio (5)
c) Optional. Digital audio to an external amplifier (6)

The above connections will allow the following:

1) Watching Freeview channels direct on TV.
2) Watching/Recording Freeview channels via DVD.
3) Improved sound via external amplifier if the third connection above is made.

Under the above connections, I think your query is how to get Freeview via your DVD??

1) Select your soiurce on your TV to show DVD.
2) On your DVD player, select the Input to the Input you have used to attached the DTVS-1B to. Could be Line1 or Line2 or AV1 etc..

Hi AH. Thank you for the instructions. I connected

a) Component connection from receiver to the TV and
b) Composite connection from receiver to my DVD

I then turned TV on and can get all TV channels fine.

When I go to my source list the DVD recorder doesn't show at all. Any suggestions on where I go from here? Please advise. Thanks again.

Hi AH. I have connected the DVD recorder via composite to the AV input on the TV. Source list is now showing DVD recorder on AV. I can play old recorded material, but can't seem to scan TV channels. I have tried autoscan and it goes through the motions but is not picking up the TV channels. Any further advice greatly appreciated. Thank you. Malcolm

Hi Malcolm,

Your DVD recorder is not a digital satellite receiver. It will not tune the channels in. What you can tune is is the "RF" signal from DTVS-1B. You can plug "TV Out" of DTVS-1B to "Antenna In" on your DVD recorder. Then your DVD recorder will tune in the output of DTVS-1B. You can also select the input source of your DVD recorder to view what the DTVS-1B is showing.
